DESCRIPTION:This 3-session cooking class will meet monthly and cover cookin
 g safety (including safe cutting techniques)\, healthy cooking hygiene\, an
 d how to cook various simple foods. This course is adapted to be accessible
  for people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. The cla
 sses will break each cooking task down into manageable steps. Cooking topic
 s may include:\n\n \n- a seasonal meal or dessert\n\n- food safety includin
 g how to decipher expiration dates\, how to know when food is cooked\, how 
 to identify mold\, how to properly clean the kitchen\, how to avoid burning
  yourself on the stove and pans\n\n- following steps of a recipe\n\n- teamw
 ork in a shared kitchen space\n\n- memory techniques to remember to turn th
 e stove and oven off.\n\n \n\nWhile students will snack during each class\,
  there may not be full meals provided during every class\; students are rec
 ommended to plan accordingly.\n\nAids are welcome to join a student. A need
 s assessment covering food sensitivities/allergies\, past cooking experienc
