Charcuterie Board Workshop

This is our most popular woodworking class, and it tends to fill up quickly! In this hands-on two-session workshop, you’ll design and build your own hardwood charcuterie board. Choose from a variety of shapes, sizes, and wood combinations to create something that fits your own style and makes a great addition to your kitchen or a unique handmade gift.

All wood used in this class is repurposed or reclaimed, sourced from pallets, shipping containers, old furniture, and other rescued wood. A wide selection of hardwoods will be available and may include maple, ash, purpleheart, birch, Brazilian cherry, oak, and others.

We’ll have wood prepared in various stages, so you can do as much or as little of the power-tool work as you’re comfortable with. Some pieces will be ready to use, while others may need planing, jointing, cutting, or other preparation.

Session 1:

You’ll choose your wood and design, prepare the individual pieces, and glue and clamp them together to create your board blank. Depending on your project, tools may include the miter saw, table saw, planer, jointer, and clamps.

Session 2:

After the glue has cured, you’ll remove the clamps and dried glue, flatten the board as needed, lay out the final shape and optional handle, and cut the profile using the band saw or scroll saw. You’ll then sand the board smooth and apply a food-safe board oil to bring out the natural color and grain of the wood.

No previous woodworking experience is required. We’ll demonstrate the tools and techniques used throughout the project and help you safely complete each step.

Everyone will leave the workshop with a finished, food-safe hardwood charcuterie board of their own—ready to use, show off, or give as a gift!

Although this is a beginner class, we’re also offering an Introduction to Woodworking and Shop Tools workshop for students who want to experience a wider variety of tools. It’s a great standalone class and although highly recommended before taking this course, it is not a requirement.

Please bring safety glasses and a dust mask if you have one. We have a small supply on hand. Long hair will need to be tied back and no open toed shoes or looser clothing.

Ever wanted to try woodworking but didn’t have the tools, the experience, or know where to start? That’s exactly what my classes are for. Most of my students arrive with no previous woodworking experience at all. My goal is to provide a relaxed, approachable place to step outside your comfort zone, try something new, and discover skills you may not have realized you could learn.

I especially enjoy working with reclaimed and rescued wood, finding new uses for materials that might otherwise be discarded. I’m also known to stop for a good pallet or piece of discarded furniture—what some people see as trash, I tend to see as lumber that just hasn’t figured out what it wants to be yet. Many of my projects let the wood’s natural colors, grain, weathering, and imperfections become part of the design rather than covering them with stains or colorants.

My students span generations, from children working alongside a parent to older adults trying something new. I encourage everyone to use the tools themselves, make mistakes, ask questions, and experiment with their own ideas.

My goal is for you to leave with a project you’re proud of—and, more importantly, the confidence to say, “I can do this.”
