Gnocchi Times 3COOKING & BAKINGGnocchi or Italian dumplings, the much loved pasta hearty enough for a main meal or as a primo course, are created with ease in this class! You'll prepare the following three varieties: Roman-style, made with parmesan cheese and semolina flour Giuseppe Verde’s favorite, ricotta and spinach, and Adele's favorite, sweet potato with a brown butter sauce Add some Del’ Amore Sauce, some salad, and mange! Fun for the whole family and friends as everyone can lend a hand in making this handmade treat. This is a participatory cooking class. Gouache for All LevelsARTS & CRAFTSIn this 5- session introduction course you will cover a variety of gouache painting techniques and will paint different subjects each week. The purpose of class is to have fun and learn something new using gouache as the medium. We will explore a variety of techniques and approaches that focus on how to make dynamic vibrant imagery using gouache paint. We will go over best practices using a fundamentals grid each week to explore two new techniques related to gouache. No drawing experience necessary and open to all levels. You will learn how to use a variegated wash to build up paint. You will also learn how to apply gouache wet on wet and wet on dry as well as brush techniques such as flat wash and dry brush. Gouache is a great medium to use when painting negative spaces as it lends itself from going from dark to light which differs to watercolor. Lastly, we will use a fade out to layer shadows using color theory for a final piece. A list of materials to purchase prior to class will be provided after registration. Grittibänz – Swiss Bread MenCOOKING & BAKINGGrittibänz, are charming little bread-men that are a popular holiday treat in Switzerland. Roughly translated – “Gritti” refers to a figure with legs apart, and “bänz” is the short form for the name Benedikt. The bread is made from a lightly sweet yeast dough, similar to brioche or challah. They’re widely made in homes and bakeries across the German speaking part of the country and are a beloved tradition throughout the holiday season. Enjoy with honey or jam during class, and bring some home for all to share! If you enroll with a child (under 12), please only enroll as one registration. How to Start Sewing: Foundations of Garment SewingARTS & CRAFTSIf you are interested in learning the basics of clothing construction, and would like to create a wearable garment then this course is for you! In this 8-week course (20 hours!), students will learn essential garment sewing techniques while constructing the a button down over-sized shirt (unisex) using a versatile pattern from Simplicity 9952. This pattern can be designed to your liking as long or short- both in length and sleeve, with or without a collar. Using the Assembil text, How to Start Sewing, as a foundational guide, students will build skills in pattern reading, fabric selection, seam finishes, fitting adjustments, hemming, and excellent garment construction techniques. By the end of the course, each student will complete a beautiful and unique handmade shirt as well as and gain the confidence to sew garments independently and read a pattern. Throughout the course, we will explore: Reading and understanding patterns and pattern markings Selecting appropriate fabrics Accurate cutting and marking Seam construction and finishing Inserting sleeves Button Holes Neckline/collar finishing techniques Hemming and professional pressing Basic fitting adjustments This course is ideal for confident beginners who are comfortable using a sewing machine and are ready to complete their first garment—or refine their foundational skills. We will refer to handouts from the the Assembil book, How to Start Sewing as a companion guide to reinforce core sewing principles and best practices. Materials and supplies: A list of materials and supplies will be emailed to you after registration. Requirement: Comfortable using and operating a sewing machine. A warm and Cozy Cowl is a wonderful first project to start your knitting journey. As you knit your cowl, you will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and bind off. At the end, you will have a hand-knitted piece you can wear or give as a gift. In class, we will talk about knitting tools, yarn, and gauge. Please bring the following materials to the first class: Yarn: 175-200 yards #6 Super Bulky Yarn. A solid or tonal color is suggested for your first piece so you can see the stitches.
